Quotes and costs

Is the quote free?

Yes. We visit the site, talk through what you want and give you a written quote. There’s no obligation to go ahead.

Because every yard is different. Site preparation, access for machinery, soil removal or delivery, retaining and the materials you choose all change the price. Two yards the same size can cost very different amounts depending on what’s under the surface.

Sometimes. Some owners have the earthworks, walls and paving done professionally, then do the planting and mulching themselves. We can quote the job in stages so you can choose.

Turf and lawns

When is the best time to lay turf in Ipswich?

Turf can be laid most of the year in South East Queensland. Spring and early summer are ideal because warm-season grasses grow fastest then. Winter turf takes longer to root, and mid-summer turf needs more watering in the first few weeks.

Water it well straight after laying, then keep it moist for the first couple of weeks until the roots grip. Stay off it as much as you can, and hold off the first mow until it has rooted and grown.

Real turf is cheaper upfront and stays cooler underfoot in summer. Artificial grass suits shady spots, small courtyards and areas where real lawn won’t grow, but it gets hot in full sun and still needs a good base and drainage.

Plants and soil

What plants grow well in Ipswich clay?

Many hardy natives and tough exotics do well in clay as long as drainage is sorted. Raised beds, soil improvement with organic matter, and avoiding plants that hate wet feet make the biggest difference.

A layer around 75 mm deep helps hold moisture, keep weeds down and protect roots in summer heat. Keep it pulled back slightly from plant stems and the house.

Small shrubs and garden plants, yes. Large trees need an arborist, and some trees may need council permission to remove, so check with Ipswich City Council first.

Drainage and irrigation

Why does water pool in my yard after rain?

Usually poor levels, compacted clay, or downpipes discharging onto the lawn. Fixing the fall of the ground and adding drainage solves most cases.

For garden beds, a simple drip system on a timer saves time and water and keeps plants alive through hot spells. Lawns can use pop-up sprinklers, but many owners water lawns by hand once the turf is established.
